Research
Strategy
These are some of the areas of research at the National Veterinary College of Toulouse.
The College has a dual goal : scientific excellence and thematic relevance.
The findings of the research lead to better academic recognition as well as
practical applications and recommendations that meet society 's
expectations ( e.g. food safety) and more professional demands ( e.g.
comparative physiopathology). Veterinary medicine is based on scientific
knowledge and clinical research is one of the ENVT scientific priorities.
The policy consists of developing scientific activity in partnership with
renowned research centres. Most of the College research groups work with
INRA (National Institute for Agronomic Research) departments and share a
common research policy. The development of clinical research will lead to
new partnership with other establishments like INSERM* ( National Scientific
Institute for Medical Research).
Research has always been complimentary with higher education, thus the
National Veterinary College has developed laboratory-based science within
the campus in order to offer a scientific environment to students .
Research carried out at the College is published in international scientific
journals. Within the period 1998- 2001, the ENVT scientific groups
published 212 articles in rank A publications, presented 182 papers in
congresses and produced 53 (revues de synthèse). The ENVT owns 5
patents and regularly hosts doctoral students from other universities .
Moreover the College is also active regionally, responding to invitation to
tender and take part in state-region plans. It also acts as an adviser for
local authorities on problems like food safety. It also has partnerships with
local organisations, (For example Roquefort and foie gras quality,
management of scrappie in the Pyrenees).
The College has a European strategy in partnership with INRA (National
Institute for Agronomic Research) and works for European professional and
scientific integration within the European Colleges and takes part to the
EAEVE (European Association of Education for Veterinary Establishments) of accreditation process.
The research strategy is coherent with two main fields of modern biology ,
on one side with Pasteurian axis ( microbiology, parasitology, prion
diseases, immunology) and on the other side with the Bernardian axis
(pharmacology, physiology, toxicology) in order to meet the modern
challenge of society using the most modern methods in molecular, cellular
biology and genomics.
